Irish troops to stay in Kosovo and Afghanistan

Irish troops are to remain in Kosovo and Afghanistan after the Cabinet signed-off on the move today. They might find things a bit tougher if An Bord Snip reduces the capacity of the Defence Forces by 500-1000...

I believe the government makes money off the UN for sending our troops out on these missions. Not sure of the exact figures but a senior member of the defense forces has told me that the government makes about 60-80k per man per tour after costs. The UN also foot the bill for transport, logistics and the cost of building the camps.
I would doubt it'll be an urgent cut.

there are only about 4 or 5 Irish troops in Afghanistan, and only 1 infantry company in kosovo so i wouldnt imagine it would make a big difference.

this is true except for the UN footing the bill for all transport, the UN only pay for the troops to arrive in the destiniation and return at the end of the mission, the transport back to Ireland for the leave period of the troops in the middle of the mission is paid for by the troops themselves.

the Irish engineers would normaly build the camp but charge the UN for doing so.

What are the free staters doing in Afganistan? Pathetic, when their own country is under foreign occupation. Hopefully, the Afgans will give them a lesson in how to resist foreign invaders.

I doubt that will happen, there are maybe 4 irish troops in afghanistan doing administration work not real soldiering.
