A 52-year-old man said Murphy [Brother Benedict] made pupils hold metal rods wired up to a generator. He said: "I was electrocuted in the boot room. Brother Benedict saw that as some sort of kick. Your punishment was to stand there while he turned these sort of dials. You were shaking. You could not let go." During the trial, the court heard how 10-to-12-year-old pupils at the school were whipped, forced to eat their own vomit and were sexually abused in dormitories and the school's woodwork room. A boy's arm was broken when Murphy lost his temper with him. St Ninian's was run by monks from the de la Salle order.

I can't believe it that Kilbarry keeps defending the indefensible.

He must be deluded or are in a DENIAL!

To Captain Con, I never trusted the medicos in the industrials schools as they usually sided with the authorities.

If any doubt or reason, go to the Gardai instead of the medicos. They will refer to the appropriate medical doctors etc.

What is interesting in our times now is that most Authorities have lost their status or power ... Doctors ( Dr Neary, Dr Shine et al), Catholic Church, Gardai ( MC Brearty saga).

The interesting thing about Kilbarry1 is that he has said he was a member of the De La Salles between 1965-67 or 1963-67 I've seen elsewhere which means he is unlikely to have been a full member of the Brothers as they were regarded as being under 'Temporary Orders' for about five years until they got their driving license as it were.

Given that it would make Kilbarry1 somewhere in his sixties/seventies now I do wonder what he's been doing with his life since the 70's.

There are a number of reports stating that he arrived in London, stayed at a nice hotel while trying to dig up dirt on one of the abuse victims (number of reports of him hanging around Irish pubs in London asking odd questions).

Not the brightest either as his home address in Dublin is plastered all over letters he sent to various newspaper editors detailing his famous worldwide 'investigations'.

I'd say the the De La Salles must have realised they had a nutter on their hands and showed him the door. Which explains the years of whining and scratching outside that door.

There's enough there for a convention of psychologists.

Solicitor "Appalled" at Minister's Remarks in Abuse Row

There have been several outbreaks of child abuse hysteria in the last 10 or 15 years - ever since RTE's broadcast of Louis Lentin's documentary "Dear Daughter" in 1996. Within one year of that broadcast i.e. by mid 1997, there were at least 4 sets of bogus allegations involving

    Nora Wall and Pablo McCabe
    Michael Hannon
    Michael Fitzpatrick and
    Patsy McGlinchey.

Nearly all of the innocent victims were men. The two teachers at the Kilkenny school were lucky in one way. They were both women. One of them was able to teach right through the hysteria while the other was able to return to teaching afterwards. Compare this with the case of Patsy McGlinchey who was accused in 1997, immediately suspended from teaching, acquitted in 2002 and had to go to the High Court a few months ago to force the Board of Management to lift his suspension. That was 12 years after the original false allegations!
I see that Justine McCarthy is continuing her campaign of slander against two female teachers in a primary school in Co. Kilkenny.

The Irish Independent took about 10 years and 50 court appearances before it apologised in the High Court to Niamh Nic Mhathuna for a previous slander by Justine McCarthy.

Buried in the middle of her latest article in the Sunday Tribune (12 July 2009) is the following sentence:

"Meanwhile, the DPP returned four garda investigation files with instructions that no charges be brought. The teacher was reinstated last autumn."

"Part of that complaint, alleging "gross mistreatment" of a seven-year-old boy, accused a teacher of inserting a piece of chalk lengthways in the child's mouth and "leaving him standing facing her class" in that position.
The teacher told the inquiry she had done it "to demonstrate how one should speak and communicate and that the incident was really an elocution lesson".

This act alone should have resulted in immediate dismissal of the teacher.

We are a very sick society.

A schoolteacher from Co Louth was last week jailed for two years for sexually assaulting a young boy -- just short of 11 years since the victim made his original complaint to gardai.
On at least two occasions, however, serious administrative or communication errors in the courts system caused substantial delays to the case. First, a hearing was adjourned at short notice and this was not communicated to the victim, his family or the investigating gardai. The case was listed for hearing again on October 2, 2002. In a letter to the victim -- dated November 29, 2002 -- the Director of Public Prosecutions, James Hamilton, apologised for the blunders and explained that an administrative error meant the case did not go ahead as planned on the second occasion. "At 10am . . . senior counsel for the defendant indicated that there was a problem in relation to the return for trial. On inspecting the court file, it tuned out that an error had been made in relation to the documentation in the case in the district court office. After considering the matter, the judge was not prepared to deal with the case on this basis."
It would be another seven years and numerous court appearances before the case was finally heard.

Blunders denied justice to abuse victim for years
