Gay Pride march, more harm than good ?

Heard there was a big one in Dublin today. No doubt, full of the usual drag artists and scantily clad boys , all blowing whistles, kisses, etc. I believe strongly in equality for gays and lesbians, but I think these marches do not serve the cause. They simply pigeon hole the whole movement. If the idea of the march is to highlight injustice, I think they would be better off holding a public meeting or discussion forum.

I would agree with that.. I am not homophobic but I think they good about it the wrong way to be honest with marches like that.

Agree with you too. I was 'out' before a lot of these ladyboys were born, but I run a mile from these cliched freak shows. All they do is reinforce stereotypes. I was once asked seriously at work if I went on holidays to Sitges. The poor girl genuinely assumed that gay people would automatically go to a 'gay' resort. We need to stop emphasising difference - sadly most gay people are every bit as conservative and boring as their straight counterparts.

Blowing whistles and kisses sounds very disturbing.

I notice your ire seems centred on "boys".

They are expressing themselves as they choose to.

I would take the view "let a thousand flowers bloom".

It's also 40 years since Stonewall - you know when the drag queens had enough and turned on the cops who ended up cowering in a bar while those outside stoned the building and then set it up on - beware of the wrath of girl in heels!

I hope everyone in Dublin had a great time and that it won't be long before gay people in Ireland win the battle to have equality - with anti discrimination laws passed and as well as gaining other rights such as the right to adopt.

But come to London next week when there will be over 1 million at London Pride which the Prime Minister, and all other leaders have issued statements in support of and the Mayor has too, the police, the armed forces and all other arms of the state will join in the parade and lots of wonderful people from all walks of life with all sorts of lifestyles will parade together, with no violence and mostly with the full support of the public - except for about the 5% of bigots and the odd weird christian type nutters but even they protest peacefully.

Pity the anti gay lot didn't focus as much energy in getting the celibacy ban lifted in the catholic church then priests and nuns wouldn't feel the need to torture and abuse littel children - some god you have there who allows that to happen.

We should all pray for them. There are certain groups that people choose to attend that can return them to a normal life. If only one joins a group like this and is cured them our prayers have been worthwhile. . .
