    Magic Mushrooms Banned in UK

The Labour government in Britain has just rushed its Drugs Bill through parliament. This bill makes possession of fresh magic mushrooms illegal, and categorises them as a Class A drug, along with heroin and cocaine.

Magic mushrooms were legally traded across the UK, and the trade was worth millions in VAT to the British government.

The clause relating to magic mushrooms is subject to regulations to exclude farmers, etc, who will unknowingly be in possession of class A drugs, and the mushroom traders are expected to have about 4 weeks to cease trading.

Happily, they remain legal in Ireland.

And would you consume much of them? Or are you just in favour of Liberal Drug law?

My understanding is that the possesion of 'Magic Mushrooms' is legal but any preparation for use as hallusogens is illegal.
Under these laws can a farmer be convicted of possession because the grow naturally in his field?

My GOD! They grow all over the place in certain areas of the UK. How do they expect to enforce this?

Given that magic mushrooms are not effective up to 4 days after they are taken, I would not consume them more regularly than once a week. In terms of dosage, yes, I would take large doses of them. And I have found them to be the most authentic spiritual experience I have yet encountered.

You would have to define 'Liberal Drug law' for me.

Apart from your misspelling of hallucinogens, you are more or less correct. It is illegal to dry, put in tea, or otherwise prepare the mushrooms for consumption.

Indeed. That will be the problem. The main aim of the law is to shut down the shops that are currently selling fresh mushrooms, and that will be achieved. However, there is little or nothing they can do about the native Liberty Caps which grow wild all over the UK, and it is expected that unknowing possession of these mushrooms will not be illegal. However, this loophole will most likely leave space for mushroom enthusiasts to hunt their own.

Ironically, the Home Office says that the main danger posed by magic mushrooms is that hunters will pick the wrong ones and eat poisonous ones by mistake, so this law is going to cause harm.

I would be surprised if the police took this too seriously. It may well end up like the foxhunting bill; unenforceable Labour folly.
