Could the people peacefully overthrow the government ?

Just speculating.....could this happen here ? could a peaceful people's up-rising bring down the government and force a general election ?

    Possible Timeline for it -
3 days to next budget - large number of posters go up around the city calling people to rally at noon in Merrion square park on Budget day to try and bring down the government and get a general election. No-body knows who starts the campaign, it just spontaniously takes off.
2 days to next budget - chain e-mails and texts go out telling people to come and join the rally in Merrion square. Newspapers and RTE cover the news of the un-offical protest rally so it gets more publicity. A Pirate radio station comes on air appealing for people to come and join. Social network sites spread the word too. People realise something big is happening.
Budget day - masssive numbers of people converge on Merrion Square. All the different groups that have been hurt by the government united with one aim - to get a general election. Tv coverage shows the massive protests. More and more people come and say they are not leaving till an election is called. Sympatetic shops come and distribute food to the protestors. Smaller protests spring up in other cities around the country. Eyre square in Galway for example.
The scenes from Dublin are going out live on SKY news. The world - and the international financial markets - are watching. Its clear there is a massive Anti-government movement coming together. Behind the scenes Fianna Fail and Green TD's see the end is coming.
President McAleese is being kept up to date with whats happening, and she realises the current government have lost the consent of the people to be governed, and calls a meeting of the council of state. Brian Cowen has to be flown out of government buildings in a helicopter as all the streets are now all blocked. Enda Kenny and Eamon Gilmore address the crowd from the steps of the National Gallery appealing for calm.
At the council of state, The President says she must consider whats best for the country as a whole, and the sheer numbers of people protesting are an indication that an election is needed, and she then disolves the dail and calls a general election.

    Could it happen ???

Unlikely, I would say. The Irish are too passive a people. In general, people just protest here on any kind of large scale if their pay/pensions are affected, not for any ideological reasons. Who knows though, maybe there is a breaking point...

Civic unrest would be one good way of preventing an early general election. which is why Fine Gael/Labour would get behind it. They are terrified of getting into power right now.

No point overthrowing the government without adding a few others to the tumbrils...bankers,developers,lawyers and certain journalists. Between them they have destroyed the country and should pay.
