Because prostitution is a bad thing!

For most people involved they are doing it out of economic necessity, they are being exploited.

I think that would just make prostitutes, pimps and users find more secretive ways to avail of the service.

I'm not suggesting we make it more common, but hey, we live in a modern society. If someone wants to pay for sex and contribute to the financial mess of the country then it's fine by me.

A win, win situation for all involved.

now lets not be silly. the vast majority of people who have the prospects of getting paid adequately for different occupations will not choose prostitution. selling your body for sex is demeaning and damaging to the person.

Anybody who says they want to ban prostitution is trying to wage war on reality. It is always going to be there so it makes sense to take the criminality out of it, give legal protections for those in the service, create the environment to make health monitoring of sex workers easier and to enable the taxation of the service. Otherwise, we keep our heads in the sand.

    Why a bad thing?

granted, there are bad elements to the world of prostitution. But that's why it should be legalised, regulated and taxed.

you do realise that that is the essence of exploitation? we have labour laws and a whole host of other laws that protect people from being exploited even when the "consent" to it
