Why those Five?
The word 'politics' is derived from the word 'poly', meaning 'many', and the word 'ticks', meaning 'blood sucking parasites
No offense but are you English? I was under the impression the designation was "Taoiseach".
In terms of the list Lemass was probably my favourite and it's a pity that people who succeeded him like Haughey and Fitzgerald practically destroyed all the good work he did on the economy.

We can turn the earth's revolution
We have the power
People have the power ...
no im not english i just wanst sure if i was spelling taoiseach right
It was actually Jack Lynch who destroyed all Lemass's good work on the economy. By the time Haughey and definitly Fitzgearld got into power the economy was already destroyed.Originally Posted by pluralist
On that list I would say Lemass. However he does leave out some of Ireland's best Taoiseach's such as the two Cosgrave's.

I see from another thread that you're from the North. No offense meant anyway.Originally Posted by dee444

no problem
i'm sorry if i offended you by not writing taoiseach
1. Eamon DeValera, was the greatest Taoiseach the country ever had.
2. Sean Lemass, was a close second
3. John A Costello
4. John Bruton
5. Jack Lynch
WT Cosgrave for preserving democracy and for the courage and vision to build ardnacrusha amongst other projects.
DeValera was a disaster from the start with his "economic war" and his total lack of ambition for the Irish people.
I can't wait until tomorrow morning, when that cretin CJH logs on and insists that Haughey was our greatest Taoiseach!
No doubt, for his contribution to transparency in our democratic system; being an embodiment of high standards; being an example of morality in his family life; his sterling work on the peace process; massive investment in Health from 1987 onwards; standing up to big business; etc etc etc
And then we all get to have a hearty laugh into our coffee!
