    spouses &orphens pension scam

every civil servant garda school teacher local authority workers etc
are forced to pay 2%of their wages every week to this fund
single men and women must also pay
this discriminates against unmarried, single ,and gay people working within the civil service
why should a single person have to contribute to a fund he or she cannot benifit from??
this scheme applies only to married couples

children of parents not married will not benifit from this scheme
i appeal to all civil servants to lobby your union to change this scheme

I am healthy, why should I contribute to the care of the sick.

I am young, why should I subsidise the pensions of the elderly.

I am a graduate, why should my taxes pay for university fees.

I am not a child, why should I be forced to support National Schools.

I am a pedestrian, how dare they take my money to build roads.

Not all were forced - some opted out. Some of those who remained unmarried and childless qualified for refunds.
Now all public servants pay. But can you absolutely guarrantee that you will never (even at age +90!!) acquire a partner? This partner may have children. This partner may have a child with a disability, who will benefit for life from this scheme.

It used to be 1.5%. A pittance. Money well spent I say.

It is 1.5% and you cannot opt out.You could opt out at one stage and some hungry fluckers did leaving their widows and children without a penny. It has always surprised me that a "confirmed batchelor" never took a case to Europe on this.

married people who contribute don't benefit from it either as it is only in the case that they die, that their then dependents will benefit. From other posts on civil partnership bill it seems that Dept of finance are holding it up as it will be too expensive so they are unlikely to change on this bit of pension either.

I agree with Johnfas that we all contribute to the social fund whether in good health or bad or have children or not etc and that is a good thing as we all benefit in the long run but it would be better if it was a dependents pension that could be claimed by any dependent on the death of the person rather than just limited to different sex marriage partners.

The 'confirmed batchelor' would have to prove that he could/would never acquire a partner or dependent. Impossible.

Public service female workers were not allowed to join this scheme until 1981.
In that year, women were allowed to 'opt out' which many (mostly young and/or single women did) Many of those who opted out later regretted it and in recent years negotiated an 'opt back in' which is quite expensive.
