Cullen to give the green light for Aer Lingus flotation

THE Government will give the green light for Aer Lingus to be sold off today.

And, similar to the controversial Eircom flotation, the public will be encouraged to buy shares in it.

The flotation has been pencilled in for September. - Irish Independent

This is good news, lets just hope the government gets an adequate sale price. Somehow I don't think ordinary Irish people will be keen to invest in Aer Lingus, whats that phrase, 'once bitten, twice shy'. . .

the privatisation is already subject to so many caveats that i doubt any serious investment will be attracted its like bying a second hand car and being told you can only drive it in one direction.

Aer Liobgus is and should always be 100% in state hands. If Flotation happens this will mark the start of a long disastrous road for what is now are national airline. Whya re some people here sooo obsessed with greedy venture capitalists getting their hands on Aer Lingus instead of keeping it in state hands???

    Air New Zealand Anyone?

    Hehehehe bad spelling. . .
But seriously, archaic trade unions have held back Aer Lingus for too long. Privatisation is in the interests of consumers, government and Aer Lingus workers who will recieve handsome pay-offs. Anyone who thinks Aer Lingus can survive as a TU and government controlled entity in the dog eat dog air transport marker is sadly mistaken. ESB next please . . .

Yep, unions are bad news all right - nothing but trouble IMHO.

Surely as a radical socialist you should prefer worker ownership of Aer Lingus to the current (reactionary) state capitalist set-up?
