    Oil found off Mayo Coast

A London based company has found oil off the Mayo coast. They were looking for gas. The company is called SERICA ENERGY(SQZ) and they are listed on the AIM. Nothing in todays business pages online either, but apparently its a significant find.

I presume the law is still the same as with Shell and the company gets the keep what it finds and we get nothing?

That report said they have a 15 year license from 2006. Does that mean they get shell rights until 2021?
Actual morality is doing what is right regardless of what you're told. Religious morality is doing what you're told, regardless of if it's right.

Do they have oil rights, though? If only gas rights, or exploration rights, then there is room to claim the resources for the Irish people who they rightfully belong to.

You’re probably correct and it would be a pleasant surprise to see the government actually formulate a good deal for us, but I’m sceptical that they’ll do that.
Considering their initial dealings with energy companies, we can probably look forward to more brown envelope, backroom dealings.

The Times, The Examiner and the Independent have stories on this now.

They have a share, according to Reuters: Serica holds a 50 percent interest in Irish petroleum exploration licence FEL 1/06 in the Slyne Basin. The remaining interest is held by Germany's RWE Dea (RWEG.DE).
