    PPS numbers issued in May....

36,044 more immigrants have arrived here and claimed a PPS number since 1 January 2009.

January 2009: 17,532 PPS numbers issued, of which 9,033 issued to people from the Republic and 238 to people from the North = 9,271.

So 8,261 PPS numbers issued to immigrants in January 2009.

February 2009: 14,377 PPS numbers issued, of which 6,881 issued to people from the Republic and 205 to people from the North = 7,086.

So 7,291 PPS numbers issued to immigrants in February 2009.

March 2009: 15,204 PPS numbers issued, of which 7,079 issued to people from the Republic and 238 to people from the North = 7,317.

So 7,887 PPS numbers issued to immigrants in March 2009.

April 2009: 13,585 PPS numbers issued, of which 7,174 issued to people from the Republic and 160 to people from the North = 7,334.

So 6,251 PPS numbers issued to immigrants in April 2009.

May 2009: 13,493 PPS numbers issued, of which 6,960 issued to people from the Republic and 179 to people from the North = 7,139.

So 6,354 PPS numbers issued to immigrants in May 2009.

That is a total of 36,044 more immigrants have arrived here and claimed a PPS number since 1 January 2009.

How can this be when there are so very very few jobs available and so many Irish people have lost their jobs in the same time period?

shocking. People from the EU exercising free movement of labour. Terrible. Now if only some of our own would take the plunge and do it....

I blame that Caroline Simon person. She's all in favour of so-called 'free movement of labour' within the EU. I'm never voting for Libertas ever again.

The number of Chinese getting PPS no.s has halved from 115 to 58 - by far the lowest month so far. Will be interesting to see whether that continues. Historically, this nationality has featured strongly in the student-visa system, which was widely abused to get illegal work here. Can I just point out to you again Catalpa that not all of these numbers are arrivals. A fair number are likely to be people born here and issued with PPS nos for that reason. Others are asylum-seekers entitled to welfare.

How many of this 36,044 are from the EU, and so fully entitled to move here, and how many are from countries outside the EU? How many of the 36,044 are British, Aussies or Yanks, for that matter?

    5,138 Brits. 554 Aussies. 338 Canadians. 1033 Americans. 7,324 Poles.

Now, which one do you think needs to be cut?

Perhaps a lot less Irish State welfare for "Irish People" would help stem this influx....
