36,044 more immigrants have arrived here and claimed a PPS number since 1 January 2009.
January 2009: 17,532 PPS numbers issued, of which 9,033 issued to people from the Republic and 238 to people from the North = 9,271.
So 8,261 PPS numbers issued to immigrants in January 2009.
February 2009: 14,377 PPS numbers issued, of which 6,881 issued to people from the Republic and 205 to people from the North = 7,086.
So 7,291 PPS numbers issued to immigrants in February 2009.
March 2009: 15,204 PPS numbers issued, of which 7,079 issued to people from the Republic and 238 to people from the North = 7,317.
So 7,887 PPS numbers issued to immigrants in March 2009.
April 2009: 13,585 PPS numbers issued, of which 7,174 issued to people from the Republic and 160 to people from the North = 7,334.
So 6,251 PPS numbers issued to immigrants in April 2009.
May 2009: 13,493 PPS numbers issued, of which 6,960 issued to people from the Republic and 179 to people from the North = 7,139.
So 6,354 PPS numbers issued to immigrants in May 2009.
That is a total of 36,044 more immigrants have arrived here and claimed a PPS number since 1 January 2009.
How can this be when there are so very very few jobs available and so many Irish people have lost their jobs in the same time period?
