    ESRI: A Designated "Charity"?

Why are the ESRI, who make profits of millions each year, and have millions of Euro worth of investments, not paying one cent of tax? It's one think-tank that needs draining AFAIC.

They get flash offices, massive salaries and generous pension benefits, yet they don't pay one cent of tax!

Another example of FF back-scratching with the royal patrons of their party.

To hear Biffo and/or Lenihan quoting the ESRI's latest "bulletin" and their recovery predictions as gospel makes me sick.

It's a joke. They get flash offices, massive salaries and generous pension benefits, yet they don't pay one cent of tax!

Its an educational and research institute ......clue in the name !!!!!!!!!

"The ESRI is considered to be a non-commercial state agency and as such is subject to audit by the Comptroller & Auditor General and to the rules that apply to state organisations in relation to prompt payments, disclosure, risk management and tax clearance. The Secretary General of the Department of Finance is traditionally elected to serve on the Council."

That has all the hallmarks of a private company that is geared up to maximize profit and enrich the directors.

Average salary of 70 grand and prime location offices worth €15 million, not to mention €1.4 million in the bank. Looks like a gravy train to me.

The whole lot should be comandeered and put to better use.

Have you even bothered to check who its directors are before making stupid statements?

127 Equivalent full time personnel at end of 2007 with Average Salary of €55,000 euros and these people are Academics and I bet few with just a bog standard 3rd degree either.

Dear boy you need to do a little more work as PRSI paid by employer, Pension and Health contributions are not salary.

The office block is secured on a €13.5 Million mortgage so its probably in negative equity.

8.24 million divided by 127 is €65k. Given their 06-07 rate, I imagine their 09-10 rate is even higher.

Do you think the ESRI are not deserving of being branded a "quango"?

I wonder how many of those 127 are pro-rate part-time workers?

And I could only count 125 staff on the staff list in that report.
