well said, Europe in the guise of the EU thinks it deserves a big slap on the back because it has managed not to butcher itself for the past 50 yrs. Now the EU wants increasing military compentencies and a more active foreign policy. It makes sense that a repressed tendency to violence being unable to project itself internally should skeek to do so externally.
The balance of power system failed utterly to deal with German unification and ultimately its break down led to war. The way the twenth century is going a simular balance of power will emerge yet this time based upon global regionalism rather than that confined to Europe.
