NO2EU-YES to DEMOCRACY Campaign 'making a big impact' in Britain

I am picking up that the No2EU Yes to Democracy campaign is doing well in the UK section of the European Elections...I have just seen their election broadcast on youtube, and it was refreshing, I like the way they are countering the appeal of the fascist BNP whilst retaining a critical approach to the lack of democracy in the EU, good to see ordinary British people doing the broadcast instead of the usual production line politicians... You can view it here

    "AN UNREPENTANT COMMUNIST....."

Anyone else in Ireland know anything about this campaign? I know that the Morning Star daily newspaper is a prominent supporter as is the RMT trade union Apparently, this week will see the promotion of a really progressive and combative election platform on a scale not seen since 1945. A lively election broadcast is to be aired on ITV1 and 2 and BBC1 and 2 in England, Scotland and Wales as well as on Five, with a bilingual version for S4C in Wales.

Every household in London and in 16 other cities including the likes of Cardiff and Birmingham, Glasgow and Newcastle, Ipswich and Liverpool is to receive a No2EU - Yes to Democracy campaign brochure. We are talking millions of people here, with a special focus on distribution to carefully selected constituencies where the fascists have made their strongest effort.

In addition, people are going door to door with leaflets and are active in communities from Clacton-on-Sea to Cambridge and Carlisle. The number of public meetings and gatherings is on a scale not seen since the 1984-5 miners' strike. Political parties, community organisations and trade union activists are working together.

Who are they? From the broadcast they are obviously on the Left but not New Labour...yet the campaign seems to be well financed and well thought out....are they a sort of Left wing Libertas?

Well, the registrant is Brian Denny, and:

Brian Denny is a spokesman for the Campaign Against Euro-Federalism. Find out more about CAEF at CAEF home page This article first appeared in the Morning Star on Tuesday 8 June 2004.
The CAEF in turn is "a trade union-based campaign opposing the EU from the viewpoint of the democratic left." They've been going since 1991, and presumably have decent funding behind them.

It is basically the RMT and the Communist Party of Britain, in alliance with other left groups. Dave Nellist, who is in the broadcast used to be a Labour MP and was in Militant. I think he is in the SP now. Here is a hostile comment that outlines some of the groups involved

Thanks I checked out that critical write-up, but thats just from a pretty right wing 'new labour' blogger who is an apologist for Zionism, and a supporter of Bush/Blairs war in Iraq....so the fact that this gut doesnt like it makes me feel even more positive towards it...(theoretically)...There seems to be some pretty heavy weight trade union support in the mix despite his effort to portray it as a rag-tag of the 'usual suspects'...

I certainly wouldn't agree with what he was saying.

I saw their party political broadcast on TV last night, a very amateur looking production.

Their polling figures are abysmal. I doubt that they'll win any seats at all.
