Professor Drumm and the 32K bonus

I just heard on Newstalk, that the chief of the HSE recently received a €32K bonus, on top of a 400K salary. Although, I got the faint impression it was unconfirmed, and possibly a rumour. I sincerely hope, for the sake of our Nation, that this turns out to be false. For the people on trolleys in A&E, for the unwell people on waiting lists, and for the cancer patients in Buncrana, I hope it is untrue. For Mary Harney and her shower, I hope it is untrue.

If any job should have performance related pay his should, this would really be a slap in the face to everyone on a trolley if it's true.

Yes I think there should be performance related pay in that job too. I just can't see how a bonus is "a slap in the face to everyone on a trolley".

Think of it as you would a CEO in a company, if he was failing miserablt at his job and loosing the company money shareholders would be pretty pissed off if he was getting a pay increace.

Well that depends on whether or not Professor Drumm is actually failing in his job.

Waiting lists are getting longer and the a%e crisis is worse than it was when he got in, clearly he is failing.

So what, in your opinion, would 'failing' at his job be? Personally and I could be wrong here, but a situation whereby I'd rather risk tetanus than sit in an A&E is a failure by many standards?
I would not blame the professor for this, yet he is responsible (unlike that whiny, snivelling little piece of sh*it, Micheál Martin) and as such should be judged by the service as a whole. Its a tough job, with little thanks, but I am sure that the 400,000 euro salary eases the pain somewhat.
If I could mass-sterilise the planet, I would. Seriously.

Seems to me the issue is not whether he is failing or not, its that he has NOT YET delivered. Would a company pay a bonus to an employee BEFORE a project has been delivered, tested and signed off. Think not.
