    CHARLES BOBBETT
    NICK KILLIAN
    NOEL LEONARD

    - JOSEPH BONNER & OLIVER BROOKS WERE 'ABSENT' for this Important vote

9.1.1 To consider and if thought fit to grant Planning Permission in material
contravention of the Meath County Development Plan 2007-2013 in
respect of Planning Application Reference DA801428 by Creative
Housing Solutions Ltd (t/a Shomera) for development at Rathregan,
Batterstown, Co. Meath which seeks to develop an external product show
area, light industrial unit, with ancillary office and toilet accommodation at
ground floor and first floor level, storage yard, site entrance, proprietary
waste water treatment system and percolation area, car parking and to carry
out all associated site and ancillary works.

Pat Gallagher SeniorPlanner made the presentation to the Members.

The proposed development would materially contravene the following policy
objective of the Meath County Development Plan 2007-2013

    i) Policy ED POL 20 Page 92 of Vol 1 of the CDP which seeks:

“To permit development proposals for industrial or business enterprises in the
countryside only where, the proposed use has locational requirements that
can only be accommodated in a rural location and this has been
    demonstrated
to the satisfaction of the Planning Authority, the resultant development is
of a size and scale which remains appropriate and which does not
    negatively impact on the character and amenity of the surrounding area;
and the proposal demonstrates that it has taken into account traffic, public
health, environmental and amenity considerations and is in accordance
with the policies, requirements and guidance contained in this plan. In all
instances, it should be demonstrated that the proposal would not generate
traffic of a type and amount inappropriate for the character of the access
roads or would require improvements which would affect the character of
    these roads.”

The variation was approved on the proposition of Councillor Nick Killian and seconded by Councillor Charles Bobbett (Roll call vote: 22 for, 1 Against, 3 Abstain, 3 absent )

Batterstown is a pleasant village that was not destroyed by the Septic Tiger yet these councillors saw fit to rezone the farmland INDUSTRIAL.

    Disgraceful.

    Signed.

    Disgraceful.
Batterstown is just a tiny village, and although it will be near the new M3 interchange (for Trim), industrial zoning is inappropriate there.

Yes, that would be correct, they are the Local Dunshaughlin Area Councillors.

    Shame on them.

God forbid that anyone would want to create employment in Meath.

Why can't they commute to Dublin for work. Isn't that why John Gormley is tarring over the Hill of Tara?

Batterstown has a pub, a petrol station and a church. That's it. There's hardly another building in it.

While not ugly I don't think even the residents would describe it as pretty.

It really is the modern Irish village.

There is an empty industrial estate in Trim. And Blanchardstown is probably even closer than Trim.

The Company that had the land rezoned is already operating from an Industrial Unit in Dunshaughlin

There is already hundreds of Acres of Industrial land in the Country

There are hundreds of empty units within a 10 mile radius. (Blanchardstown, Trim, Ashbourne)

Why REZONE farmland into INDUSTRIAL land in Material CONTRAVENTION of the County Development Plan ??

    Because the developers wanted it!!!

I see Brian was the only local one to vote against it.
