    Does party membership give privileges?

I was just remembering yesterday what I read many many years ago before I moved to Ireland: That it is advisable to join a political party if you move there, because it's easier to...

I had totally forgotten about it, but was pondering about why some people in the area are seemingly more successful than others in getting this and that, are e.g. supported by Councillors when they apply for planning etc...

And I thought: Could the above be the reason?

So I thought I ask here. Does party membership still help?

I am a member of Labour party. We get loads of money of for joining. We get in, raise taxes, give that to the unions, and the unions "donate" it to us. Great system socialism is.

    Thanks for the answers.

Maybe I just live too deeply in the countryside that I could have imagined this possibility at the present time.
