    Gormley Rejects Government pull out.

The Green Party has rejected claims by Opposition parties that it is planning to pull out of Government.

This morning Deputy Leader of the Greens Mary White backed Mr Gormley's comments affirming that the party was not beginning an exit strategy from power.

Opposition parties have claimed the Green Party is preparing an exit strategy from the coalition, after it called for a renegotiation of the Programme for Government.

Well he would say that, wouldn't he.
    At least until June 6th.

John Gormley and his Green Party ministers will have to wait until some time next year until they have qualified for Ministerial pensions.
If anyone thinks that is cynical, bear in mind the reason Dan Boyle refused to give up the long service pay of €2,000 he is getting this month is because of the implications for pensions.

Oh dear. A bit behind the ball here. I'm not getting this increment. The reason it's not being given up a voluntary basis is because I believe no one should be given this increment. I think minsterial pensions become valid next month for those appointed in June 2007. But they no longer apply to those who continue in public life. None of us are particularly well off as we plough our money back into political activity, and we don't take corporate donations, remember. But that doesn't suit the conspiracy theorists, does it?

That would explain the Bertie digouts. Thanks for the info!

I hope you are not wasting your money on spamming our letterboxes with very non-green, unsolicited printed matter.

The lack of logic in this reply is entirely consistent with Green Speak. Mr Boyle made very clear he wasnt giving up his increase because it would reduce pension payments as well.
Well for all those Greens who waffle on and on about sutainability, reducing present and future payments is the point of calling for ending of these salary increases. Giving a politician a wage increase because they have been so many years in the job offends against the notion of sustainability.
This is the crux of the problem and underlines the hypocrisy of Green politicians. Sustainability is the pathway to politicial office for them, it is not a principle. That is why the Greens can refuse cancer vacines for 12 year old girls on the grounds of cost and Dan Boyle can accept a pay rise, why real environmentalists like Patrica McKenna have left the Greens.

I didn't get a pay rise or an increment. I'm not getting one. I don't care about how it affects any pension. Maybe I should write more slowly.
