    Who are the Irish Neocons?

I just came across an interesting website dedicated to analysing neocon influence in Europe.

It's run by some Scottish academics.

Irish people allegedly influenced by the Neocons include Eoghan Harris, Ruth Dudley Edwards,Bruce Arnold, and of course Declan Ganley.

Former US ambassador Thomas Foley is mentioned.

Steven King, former adviser to David Trimble, and now a columnist for the Irish Examiner is also named.

Interestingly in the light of recent events surrounding the death of Michael Dwyer in Bolivia, there are suggestions that US Neocons have sought to build some links with the European far-right. Apparently the intention is to build a coalition to resist the "Islamization" of Europe.

Neoconservatism keeps me awake at night. Frightening beast.

The ESRI and their paymasters. Not to mention all these highly influential bankers and business men who hide in the background pulling the strings.

I would have thought that anyone involved in the recently defunked PD movement would be reffered to as Irish neo-cons

    I'll sign up to that.

    Quote from that link:

"Neoconservatives were famously described by Irving Kristol as liberals who had been 'mugged by reality'."

No fear that the Trots on this site will ever need to worry about the encroachment of reality on their simplistic and utterly immutable world view.

"Neoconservatism" is a hybrid of internationalism, populism, militarism, Zionism and social-conservative rhetoric.

I'm not sure that "reality" really comes into it; it's just standard means-to-end stuff.

Marxists, Feminists and Leftists operate on the basis of "liberating tolerance" - i.e. their ideas should be tolerated, and any opposition should be suppressed.

Kevin Myers maybe... but neo-conservatism was utterly disgraced as a political philosophy by the eight years of the Bush presidency and now by this recession, so who is really worried about them? The only neo-con leader that comes to mind right now is Mikheil Saakashvili. Canadian Liberals might cite Stephen Harper too.
