Im just saying he was stupid for going there
The above comments display very low humanity - I suggest that either Unionist gracefully apologise & withdraw comments or that we should ask for his removal.

    I would agree.

I would also appeal to posters to express condolences, and leave out the political point scoring for the time being.

It's always inevitable that both sides use mindless murders as some kind of moral propaganda to condem the other side. Almost breaks your heart to see that happening when stuck in the middle is a family devestated by a brutal murder. I remember the same reactions from both sides when that 16 year old protestant lad was killed not too far back. One side ignores it, the other takes to the stage.

Does anyone know is it standard practice for police when informing witnesses that their lives are under threat if they want to retract statements? i would think it is probably illegal as it is interfering with a witness and potentially is perverting the course of justice, also does anyone else think it odd that loyalist paramilitaries knew of these statements and issued threats which then reached the police and were delivered in the space of a couple of hours?

I don't think that's standard practice. There certainly appears to be a big question mark over the role of the PSNI in this one like has been the case with much of its work since its inception. Poor younglad. RIP.

Well said. I utterly condemn the scum who killed this young fellow, following a row in a chip shop ( Kentucky Fried Chicken I think it was ) between two gangs. I also condemn the other sectarian attacks in the same area in the previous few monthns, inc. attacks on Protestants. No side has a monopoly on pain or anything else. All people are human, and all humans are equal.

God have mercy on poor Micky McIllveen may he rest in peace.

I wonder how exercised Suzanne Breen is going to get about this one? A bit to close to home for her I'd imagine.

The claim about the PSNI asking witnesses to withdraw their statements is somewhat undermined by the fact that although Ballymena has been crawling with reporters for four days, only the Continuity IRA's political wing is reporting it. Notably, neither Sinn Fein, the SDLP, the nationalist Irish News or the republican Daily Ireland has mentioned this allegation - even as an allegation - throughout any of the extensive media coverage to date.

It might be advisable to wait until or unless this is addressed by a reliable news source. Dissident republicans have been stirring up tension in Ballymena's Dunclug estate for some time now in an attempt to embarrass Sinn Fein - and only a fool would believe they're not above continuing to do so by telling lies about a murder.
