    Govt unveils renewable energy plans

    Govt unveils renewable energy plans
The Government has announced plans to double the amount of renewable energy used in the production of electricity within the next four years.

The Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources, Noel Dempsey, said the Renewable Energy Feed-In Tariff programme is meant to increase the amount of renewable energy used in electricity production to more than 13% by 2010.

Speaking on RTÉ Radio 1's News at One programme, Mr Dempsey said most of the renewable energy would be produced by wind farms.

He said the plan would reduce Ireland's dependence on oil by 2.5 million barrels a year.
"Always do right. This will gratify some people and astonish the rest." Mark Twain

“When a government is dependent upon bankers for money, they and not the leaders of the government control the situation, since the hand that gives is above the hand that takes. Money has no motherland; financiers are without patriotism and without decency; their sole object is gain.” Napoléon Bonaparte

Excellent. But they should aim to triple it instead.

Aertel's coverage of this focussed on the fact that the GP welcomed the proposals. While this seems a slightly strange angle to take, it all adds to my feeling that a FF/GP coalition is a runner next year.

This is all excellent news. But what percentage of our annual consumption of oil is 2.5 million barrels. The government should start an immediate programme now of weaning us completely off oil as an energy source. Possibly by harnessing other methods of sustainable energy.

I don't believe a word of it..Renewable energy..fantastic..I am presently installing solar pannals on my house..It is costing me a fortune but I reckon it will pay off in the long run..
I don't believe a word that comes out of the mouths of the present government..They don't have a clue how to respond to an emergency..When the Iodine tablets were being distributed, two tabs were sent to my house and there are five people in my family, I have three children (one would have thought that the census might be used in a usefull manner here)
Same government who have fallen short on their agreement to the EU in relation to environmental clean up.. Same government who are considering buying electricity from Britains Nuclear generated power stations..but who will say in a populist vote catching way that they are anti-nuclear..They are not to be trusted..they are self absorbed..Their end goal is power..and a fat wage..I don't think that they listen to what the people say(as any elected government should,as we are their employers)
Our present Governmrnt think that they are untouchable and all of us underlings should just accept what they are doing..because Big Brother knows best.

There's a programme running in the US where in certain areas, companies collect waste cooking oil from establishments for free, and turn it into a form of fuel. They then sell it. It costs approx $1600 to fit some sort of different engine to your car for it, but its much cheaper than ordinary fuel.
With the amount of chippers in this country (and you can get chips in every restaurant) there's bound to be a bit of oil knocking around.

Numerically it might just stack up, but a lot of the Green grassroots are very anti-FF. It'd be hard for Trev to sell to his membership. Could potentially be a very good government though...

Hopefully this will tempt some Green voters to FF.

Are you a FF'er now FT? You cant make up your mind can you?
You know they'll let you down in the end though. They all do, and then you'll have to find a new party all over again. Thanks for the vote in the locals though.

No-it wont. A press release planning to do a fraction of what should have been done years ago wont change our opinion of this corrupt, arrogant, incompetent, lying administration.
