"a Muslim law for non-Muslim people" Kev Myers on EIREstan's Blasphemy Law

..[such laws are] a defining feature of every Islamic society throughout the world: an intrusive and punitive legal code which destroys the lives of those adjudged guilty of insulting the Prophet or Allah. In Afghanistan, it is the death penalty. Pakistan too. Egypt as well. And so on. Why not the same, sooner or later, in dear old Eirestan?

Christianity as a potent, political and legal force is dead in Europe. Islam is not. Christians do not expect their religion to be protected by law from religious insult. Muslims do. A blasphemy code will, in effect, turn out a new variant of a local shop for local people: but here in secular/Christian Ireland, it will become a Muslim law for non-Muslim people...<article continues>

He is spot on. The multiculturalist Left should now see where this ideology is leading us. If you accept the principle of cultural-neutrality by the State, then blasphemy-laws come with that.

don't see an awful lot of untruths in that article. Myers writes in his usual style which can give some ammo to the useful idiots but the thrust of his article is correct IMO. But why not just shoot the messenger as usual.

Now I agree with Myres in the sense that it will only encourage religious extremists, but he solely confines it to militant muslim immigrants!! Quel suprise!! A lovely display of xenophobia!!

A truly brilliant article from Myers. Straight to heart of the matter without the waffle.

I don't deny it but he could be a little more balanced. Do you honestly believe that the Legion of Mary or Opus Dei or Coir or some such conservative Catholic grouping would not jump on the bandwagon of this legislation with equal glee?

It is only insults against the Islamic religion that will endanger your life and health that is why he mentions Islam.

People who are uneasy with themselves look for the slightest difference in others to scaremonger about in the hope that that will draw a veil over themselves rendering them free from scrutiny. I think it is called an inferiority complex.
