The right end of the stick would be to point out that Ahern would appear to be a rather conservative Catholic, that Myres, himself, has no idea where the inspiration for the proposed legislation came from, that no religious grouping has called for it's introduction, and to point out that is a charter for religious extremists of ALL hues to stifle criticism. I realise that militant Muslims are an attractive target, and indeed would probably love to have it introduced, but he should be a little more balanced in his attributing to it the entire benefit of it's introduction.

The motivations behind Dermot Aherns Bill is unknown (I have my suspicions) but Myers clearly states that it will be Muslims who will use this the most.

That is possibly true but I would think there is NO possibility that Ahern is introducing it at the behest of Muslim groups.

Ahern was put in charge of some reform committee at the UN by Kofi Annan. The OIC and all 57 of their member nations have demanded blasphemy be made a crime throughout the world. Dermy makes it a crime in Ireland and with his reform committee credentials get the OIC vote for some lucrative position at the UN.

So what are his motivations? Another idea that entered my head is that Calamity was in the Gulf looking for business. Wouldn't the Sheikhs be pleased that we were doing the OIC bidding.
