Reading the article it's less clear if that's what John intended to say. What's going on?
ALMOD is an excellent idea

- but El Bert has NO Chance of being elected to it.

The Green party are desperate to distract the attention away from national issues. E Ryan on the radio with Eamonn Keane kept saying the elections are about local issues, or european issues or Dublin issues. FG and Labour must keep plugging that every vote is a vote on the handling of the economy...end of. Get the greens on the spot and make them defend the handling of the economy and not wriggle off the hook

Yes. And let's hope it's left at that. God forbid...'The mayor would have the power to set policies on justice, public transport, housing and education in the capital. “It is a position that will carry a lot of power.”

... fills me with horror.

Hopeless own goal

If this report is true, that's curtains for the Greens for the foreseeable future. I can't believe Gormley is that stupid. There's no better way to condemn the Greens among moderate voters than to give Ahern any kind of endorsement.

Maybe Gormley recognises the Greens won't be getting many transfers from FG/Labour voters, and that the best he can do for prospective Green councillors is pull in a few oul FF transfers for them.

Either way, it plumbs the depths of stupidity to say something like that.

So are we to take it his notions of being "de president" are over.
Its only a chat, we ain't the world council.
In 2000 the Women's Institute in Britain gave Tony Blair the slow hand clap to demonstrate their contempt.
It was dignified, restrained and effective.Doesn't Bertie deserve the same scorn. No shouting, no abuse, no agression just a relentless slow clap whenever he speaks in public would be enough to end that man's presidential fantasy.

totally agree, the opposition parties need to put it out there that if local authorities dont have money then local issues are irrelevent until the nation is sorted out
