Relax, he's only having a laugh. Even with all the money he (Bertie) won on the horse's, he couldn't buy that many votes.

I'm sure Gormley didn't mean that. If he did, then he has no clue about politics.......

A few lessons for Mr Gormley:

    1. As Local/Euro & By-election campaigns kick off you don't endorse the person who bankrupted the economy
    2. Just because a person appointed you minister for the first time doesn't mean you have to abandon your principles forever
    3. If you are going to blindly allow yourself to be a sockpuppet of FF, then merge your party with FF and stop wasting the electorate's time when there are much more important issues at stake

Electing a Mayor is the least of the concerns of reforming local government - getting rid of the many corrupt politicans from all parties should be the first task. If we saw a glimpse of what went on in Dublin we can only imagine what went on outside the Pale where corruption has an even stronger grip.

So before calling for elected this or that - revamp the whole system start to finish and make those elected accountable and their decisions transparent.

    What's quoted is this:

"I’m sure the former Taoiseach is qualified as are other individuals from other parties who would put their names forward.”

This is of course a sensationalist spin. Obviously what Gormley is saying is that Bertie needn't be priming himself for this lucrative job - that it's open to the electorate to decide - and that there will be many good strong candidates going forward for it.

Of course, if the electorate decide they want Bertie back - MORE FOOLS THEM!!

I think Gormley has warmed much more to FF than Ryan and others in the Greens.

We cannot let BA anywhere near elected office again especially one where he has discretion over public monies.

    Ever again.

Steps of Dublin Castle. Bertie's resignation speech. The clenched jaw and glaring eyes.

You all have such short memories.

That was indeed strange. Replacing one PD with another PD. I have suspected for some time that Harney has the dirt on major figures in FF because there is no other credible explanation for her continued occupancy of a Cabinet post. What does she have on the Greens that would make Gormley appoint not one but two PDs to a position within "the gift" of the Minister for the Environment??

Reading the article it's less clear if that's what John intended to say. What's going on?
Gormley is merely stating the obvious, if Bertie does run, he'll top the poll as he would be a suberb advocate for Dublin.

Why would be be so now when in 30 years of many Senior positions he failed this City absymally.

Indeed the main intervention in his own Constituency the Dublin Docklands was even introduced by two Labour Ministers.
