RIR Officer Arrested by RMP for alleged Spoofing in 'Combat'

Oh Dear.

AN RIR Officer has been Arrested by the RMP for alleged Spoofing in 'Combat'

It looks like 1RIR is facing a possible very serious Scandal that rather than covering the unit with Glory will see it wrapped up in an ignominious Disgrace!

The investigation, the first of its kind in more than 300 years of British army history, comes after the arrest of Major Robert Armstrong, who was awarded a military cross for "consistent bravery and inspirational leadership" when a convoy of British and Afghan army vehicles was ambushed last year in Gereshk Valley, Helmand province.

Armstrong, 35, of the Royal Artillery, was detained by Royal Military Police on Friday to be interviewed under caution after claims from another officer about the "overblown" narrative in his medal citation.

Armstrong was attached with the 1st Battalion The Royal Irish Regiment in Helmand last year

Lt Col Edward Freely, the commanding officer of the Royal Irish battle group, could also be questioned, the Sunday Telegraph reported.

It is the Lt Colonel of the RIR who is actually in the doo doo here as it is he who will have written and submitted the citation not the Royal Artillery Major.. You don't recomend yourself for medals in the BA no matter what some on here will believe.

If the Colonel has foolishly written a false or 'sexed up' citation he has put his career at risk and may well be 'cashiered' - dimissed in disgrace with no pension or gratuity.

At worst the Major will lose the Military Cross he was awarded and be censured if the RMP bbelieve he was complicit in the citation. At best he will have to hand it back and be awarded a 'Mention In Dispatches' instead.

How funny it would be if this was the actual term for the alleged offence, I can see the Court-Martial now,

'Sir, you are charged with spoofing in Combat'

He could plead guilty on grounds of 'only carrying on'.

Other possible charges;

Horseplay
Almost having someone's eye out
Acting the Lig
Learing
Being a Candy Man
Ill-setness

Well I can't see the Top Brass being too happy about this to say the least of it.

The MC is supposed to be awarded for acts of outstanding bravery and is IIRC one gong below getting a VC.

Its no petty award.
