SIPO - Donations receved by TDs and Senators exceed €160k

Politicians should not be allowed receive ANY donations. They should be allowed fundraise but not receive donations. A donation implies favouritism imo.

Donations of €163,394 disclosed - The Irish Times - Wed, Apr 29, 2009

SIPO Report - 22/04/09 - Donations Disclosed by TDs, Senators and MEPs for 2008, Standards in Public Office Commission

Politicians have reported receiving donations worth €163,394 last year, the Standards in Public Office Commission said today.

Fianna Fáil TDs Bertie Ahern and Cyprian Brady disclosed €19,000 each, which was in respect of use of St Luke's constituency office in Drumcondra - why does this money go to Cyprian and Bertie and not into the FF coffers?

Breakdown of total value of disclosed donations to TDs and senators in 2008, broken down by political party:

    TDs

    Fianna Fáil - €83,665
    Fine Gael - €19,450
    Labour Party - €4,820
    Green Party - €1,200
Total value of donations in 2008 disclosed by TDs - €109,135

    Senators

Labour Party - €35,310.41 (of which €5,000 was returned)
    Fianna Fáil - €10,450
    Fine Gael - €5,000
    Non-party senators - €3,499
Total value of donations in 2008 disclosed by Senators - €54,259.41 (which €2,500 was returned)

    Ha!

    Never even thought of that!

Would SIPO release that info if an inquiry was made of them?

Has he fup, the Rev have stated they will not be moving on the issue until the Mahon Report is published and as Bertie's mates are doing their best to stall and prevent same, this TCC may be a very long time in coming.

Strange to see Labour topping this list, given how few senators they have. Alex White/by-election related I presume?

So does giving a TD your 1st preference vote. Should we ban that as well?

"St. Lukes" would make a great name for the bad bank
We all love animals. Why do we call some 'pets' and others 'dinner'?

You don't sign your votes, but you do sign your cheques. There is a slight difference

The use of St Lukes is a donation from FF to Ahern/Brady. No money changes hands.
Nothing will motivate the lazy / apathetic / Americanised / west-British types to embrace their culture and the Irish language.

Alan Kelly makes up over €30k of it and there some very curious transactions in there as well.
