Glad to hear that you didn't fall into the trap fallen into by so many.

Jack in the schooling, buy a Pajero and a pair of yellow boots ,cover the dash with invoices and take-away wrappers, and call yourself a developer.Laugh at the ordinary Joe looking to have a leak repaired.

"Ahhh jaysus pal, won't be able to get to you for a week or two and there's a €150 call ouh , cash only Buud l"

Hope you won't be on €188 for too long.

I find it staggering the number of self-proclaimed intelligent people on this site that don't know the difference between construction worker and property developer. In fact most of the "property developers" that got into serious difficulty were the folks with no background in construction what so ever. Ex-teachers, doctors, lawyers, hoteliers, etc. Not one of the build a damn thing in their lives before but all of a sudden they were, "property developers". No sympathy for them. However the ordinary Joe Soap construction worker has been left out in the cold by the state. If he was self-employed, he's rightly screwed as there are no benefits from the state to get him back on his feet. Disgraceful! This government seem content to keep exporting our younger generation of plumbers, chippies, brickies, QS's, Architects and Engineers abroad rather that try stimulate the economy, get these young people into work and keep them at home. Thundering disgrace! This would be, I imagine, one of the main points out of work construction workers would hope to hammer home to the government.

Great post, unfortunately I think you are wasting your time. A lot of posters think the ordinary construction worker was making five thousand a week and they all say 'bud', do dodgy work and didn't work Mondays or Fridays.

Naturally there is a huge difference between developers and the folk who worked for them. As we had a building boom we produced too many plumbers, plasterers, chippies etc to meet normal demand. Many will have to re-train or emigrate but hopefully we'll see some growth to keep some working at home.
A thundering disgrace is the fuggin electrician who fitted two lights to my mothers house (one upside down) both of which did not function properly. She was charged €567. I phoned him to ask him to fix them on several occasions and nothing. I got another electrician to go out and he fixed the problem for a fraction of the cost. My point being, the better tradesmen will survive and the cowboys will go to the wall.
