Government out sources ballot printing to the UK

I work for a southern printing company (southern as in munster). We have gotten ballot paper tender from the government for the last few years. we went for it again this year (Euro elections) and we lost it. It went to a UK company. If it went to another Irish company you'd say one thing, but the cheek of these scumbags, criticising John Smith for going to Newry for his slabs of Millar when they are out sourcing work outside the country.

This place is a fooking shambles.

Are they not legally obliged to tender across eu ? If there was a significant benefit to going for the uk one and they did not, they could get sued afaik.

    it is ironic thought

I would have thought that the significant benefit would be giving work to insecure small companies at home in this big recession. Keeping jobs going, keeping businesses alive.

I don't know if they're legally obliged to tender across the EU. I don't see how this would work, surly we'd all be getting everything done in Eastern Europe in that case. And also, with reference to the ballot papers in particular, there is a lot of procedure that goes with printing these. security, proofing and inspections. How will that work when you need to leave the country?

As far as I know you're right.......however listened to the brain storming on Pat kenny a while ago and it appears that all through the EU other countries are a bit better at manipulating the tender process....wouldn't you think our gangsters(allegedly gangsters...OK?) would be fec8king experts at this?

Yep, but eu regulations prevent us from being protectionist, open market and all that.
TBH, I know nothing about this, just general information or what I "think I know" but you could look here Policy/Legislation

I dont see why it could not work to be honest, none of the above are unsurmountable, but I would assume there could be justifications for not awarding contracts outside the state, but they would have to be very carefull

EU regulations require the tender to be published on EU Tenders list and everyone is free to tender providing they can meet the requirements.

The idea that somehow Ireland allows everybody else win tenders and other EU tenders are not won by Irish based businesses is clearly false.

Key to winning tenders is making sure you are involved in writing the specifications.

You are forgetting the fact that the vast majority of people in this country are thick as planks.

French - Paris, Spain - Madrid, Germans - Berlin are capable of doing positive things with their capitals - we pedestrianise our capital because the germans and spanish did it. They get the sun.

We get the pissing rain. Who wants to walk from O'Connell Street to Grafton Street in the pissing rain mr. planner. This is not Berlin ye thick ***. Look at the state of this banana republic.

The people in positions of authority here couldn't think to save their life.

Sending national print abroad; not one other country does it. Guess why?
