Will the sacked junior ministers get to keep their advisers and aides?

The junior ministers are getting a €53k "golden parachute" even though they haven't lost their jobs.

So what will happen the 187 staff they have ? These extra advisers and constituency aides are probably on fixed contracts and cost €8m p/a. Mary Harney snaffled up the PD press secretary for her personal use. Will the sacked junior ministers get to keep their staff ?

If so won't this mean they'll have an unfair advantage regards getting re-elected - that actually the sacking will be to their advantage ?

I wouldn't think so. But then again nothing would surprise me.
Every one sees what you appear to be, few really know what you are, and those few dare not oppose themselves to the opinion of the many, who have the majesty of the state to defend them.

christ, l can understand the necessity of a constituency aide; but are juniors so innundated that they cannot read without advisors ? explains ovations at the budgets, l s'pos: advisor was at the spa/colonic irrigator/manicurist

Well the extra staff likely have fixed contracts ... a lot of them are probably friends and families - so they'd be hard to re-deploy

It would be ironic if the government saved a few hundred k on the junior ministers and missed the c €2 million on their staff

No they wont. All former Ministers revert to the traditional staff entitlement.

Usually one Parliamentary Assistant and one Secretarial Assistant

I wonder how many of the aides and advisers are personal friends or are family. Can any of the FF's answer that.

    Ok.
Most of those 187 people are civil servants who will revert back to a traditional civil service role.

Each TD when they become a TD brings their Parliamentary Assistant with them to the Department and they become Personal Secretaries. These people will revert to their roles as Parliamentary Assistants. Usually their Secretarial Assistant stays in the same role as they were based usually in the constituency office.

Any one who was a Adviser, though I dont think there were any with the 5 unlucky former Ministers, will no longer be an adviser.

wouldnt it be fun if these guys ARE on fixed contracts that the gov then chooses to redeploy them to the newbies instead ?

alot of family members could find themselves working in the back end of nowhere
