Who is increasing charges? You are making a spurious juxtaposition here in your example if you are relating price increases to tax increases. That is why i suspect nobody is rising to the bait.
The arguement for tax increase is essentially over, even the UK has introduced a new higher rate
The issue of Government revenue is and always will be related to tax.

Re-wording the question is only serving to make it more stupid. Read the name of the thread. A more relevent proposal in the present circumstances would be to share whatever work is available, or divide available work out so that each family unit has at least one job. These are alternatives to a fair and progressive taxation on all income.
Yes if you are the garage owner because you need to get more revenue from each car. If you sell 20 cars at 1000 euro profit each and the following year you sell 10 cars then you need to increase each car by 1000 euro to get the same profit.
Of course this assumes you don't cut your costs.

Increasing prices will result in less sales that 10 even more likely.
You could reduce your price and sell more
You could reduce your costs and hapilly maintain selling 10 cars.
Or you could do a combination of all 3 !!!!
Hope keeps referring to the first option as the solution to all, I am saying simply that you need to follow up with 2 and 3.
Increasing taxes, or refoprming the tax system is not the final solution, it may well be part of the solution, but not all.
So Hopi, yes to reforming the tax system (the pension releif allowing one to grow a fund of up to 100m tax free is a prime example), I agree, but you cannot do this in isolation, you have to cut costs and reform.

Agree with you 100%. Hopi would be on firmer ground as would Labour and the left if they included cuts in PS salaries and welfare in the mix along with tax increases. This they steadfastly refuse to do. All this is irrelevant as the long overdue cuts in welfare and public sector salaries will come and there is not a damn thing anyone can do about it. Either our government does it or we'll be going cap in hand to the IMF and they will insist on it.
