I reckon he would have a good background in international logistics though. particular speciality in shipping from war affected areas. could be a valuable asset to the UN rapid response unit.

Is he being used as bait?
    Or a deal?
At first this was the only logical conclusion I could come up with. But how effective could he be now that the world knows who he is and his photo has been splashed everywhere?

There has to be something bigger going on here, most certainly with the authorities' knowledge and blessing, and the true reason may not be known for some time yet.

This really indicates what the Garda Authorities think of Joe Public.

They are under investigation by the GSOC concerning this guy at the moment.

The GSOC are carrying out the investigation "in the public interest" i.e in the interest of you and I.

In the middle of all of this they thumb their noses and do this. It is just unbelievable

There needs to be an Oireachtas Justice Committee investigation, and urgently.

The Gardai misled the Department of Transport twice! And Boylan himself phoned in to a show Dempsey was appearing on yesterday in order to make clear it wasn't him who misled...
GARDAÍ twice misled the Department of Transport on the criminal record of a drug dealer and alleged informant when asked to vouch for his good character.

Amid growing claims of a Garda cover-up the department released a briefing report on the controversial granting of an international haulage licence to Louth transporter Kieran Boylan.

It revealed first how the gardaí failed to inform the department of Boylan’s seven-year sentence in Britain, in 1997, for possessing cannabis. And last year the department was not told of a five-year sentence handed down by an Irish court. This would not have been known but for Boylan of Drumcar, Dunleer, Louth, declaring it in his licence application.

Boylan contacted his local LMFM station during an interview with Transport Minister Noel Dempsey yesterday and said he was up-front with his application. He did not go on air but told researchers the gardaí knew everything about his record.

Anyone still believe that the Gardai weren't off the deep end protecting their prize informant? I'm only wondering now if their protection of Boylan isn't in fact a protection of someone bigger...

This is very serious indeed. Not just in relation to Boylan but in relation to the overall picture.

To wield this amount of power it has to be very senior officers who are pulling the strings.

In this case they are protecting Boylan and most certainly someone else.

Change the circumstances around to a scenario where they are out to get someone.

What chance will that person have to protect himself by making a complaint to the Gardai or the GSOC? absolutely none.

It is also very obvious that the GSOC are entirely toothless and the Gardai have absolutely no respect for the GSOC and care little.
