Fine Gael has considerable faith that An Bord Snip will deliver swingeing cuts. On www.finegael.org - home the sixpoint plan for job creation and protection (dated 1-4-09) assumes one of the largest contributions from 'A Smarter and Leaner State' (total saving of 1000 in 2010, units of a million euros one supposes) will be 401 from the Bord Snip (ouch, that'll hurt).
FG does not itself name a single NGO that could be dispensed with, does not identify the Legal Aid budget as due a reduction.
The NGOs are actually self-serving taxpayer-funded professional lobbyists, with a huge output of 'reports' and published 'policy recommendations', and a disproportionate say in our national life; and no-one will take them on.
Certainly not Fine Gael. In the sixpoint plan not a vested interest is threatened; except CIE which will have it's subsidy cut. Bus drivers! You're a soft target.
Comment: The Job Creation Plan is a very faint-hearted document. Why don't they just join Fianna Fail?
