Private Public Partnerships - Abuse of.

Private Public Partnerships were introduced primarily as a means of funding essential infrastrucure, drainage, community facilities etc. The list of projects underway demonstrate that this is to a large extent what PPS have been used for:

    http://www.ppp.gov.ie/projects/IAG%20FOR%20WEBSITE.xls

Now, look at the planned development of Greystones Marina http://www.greystonesmarina.com/ , 375 apartments, 1,000 space car park, 6.400sq. ft. of commercial units and a 230 berth marina for private yachts. Essential infrastructure?!!

This is being promoted by Wicklow County Council as a development for the local community as justification for what is simply an abuse of the intention of PPS. It is clear from surveys, reports and the 6,500 objections received by An Bord Pleanala that 90%+ of the population of Greystones and surrounding areas are opposed to the development in this form.

I am one of many thousands of Dubs who have being visiting Bray and Greystones since chilldhood and I am appalled at the vulgarity of this plan.

I will be having my say as An Bord Pleanála are holding the Oral Hearing for the Greystones Marina Development on Thursday 30th, March beginning at 10.00am in the Royal Hotel Bray and open to the public for 10 days. If you are in the area, please drop in and let loose if you wish. All are welcome.

If this abuse of PPS, including compulsory purchase of foreshore, to the sole benefit of a private developer and some water sport enthusiasts is allowed to proceed it will set a very dangerous precedent for the rest of the country.

That's a disgrace. I can't believe they're planning on building that thing. Hopefully it will go the way of the Dun Laoghaire bath's sky-scraper.

Hopefully. It looks completely out of place.

But seriously man, "sky-scraper"? It was only eight stories!

Funny thing is that the impression on the site does not do justice to how out of place it would actually be. These are pictures from the application which don't include the Edwardian houses around the harbour but just show an expanded version of the development itself. This hides the fact that the scale of this monster is ridiculously disproportionate.

Well yeah, I know, but there's no harm in tarting up the tale a bit.
