Where's The Other €10bn Gonna Come From?

This budget has only partially plugged the gap in the public finances. We still have to fill a massive hole.

How is this country going to make it to next December? If you thought last Xmas was bad for consumer spending, God help us for Xmas 09.

Is the strategy to bail out a bit of water and pray to St Jude that the storm passes even though the forecast isn't great?

There's talk now of the Government "borrowing from the NTMA"... A recipe for disaster if you ask me.

The budget will depress the ecomony even further so it may be more than 10 Billion. Its looking more likely that the IMF may be calling mid next year ot he following year. Cutting expenditure is the only way now. Top level Pub Sector pay needs to be capped, most quangos disbanded, NDP to be cut further, def no metro (only serves to help developers alligned to FF who owns the land) and small decrease in Social Welfare benefits.

IMF next year? What about IMF this year once the gubberment realise that their tax increases don't bring in as much dosh as they would have hoped and the entire economy depresses even further?

Plenty of fat to be trimmed if there was the will.
For instance, I wonder what the taxi regulator and her staff has been doing for the last three months.Lets have an hour by hour timesheet as a lowly private sector worker would have to fill out, project worked on,results, documents produced, completions, added value, no waffle about attended meeting on this, managed that,concrete/achievements/results outputs only and then focus on the costs.

Once they complete the benchmarking for the PS and we see a reduction in PS wages, how much are we likely to have saved?
