Irish priests 'abused thousands of children'

Thousands of children were abused by Catholic priests in Ireland over a 30-year period, a shocking report on clerical sex abuse is set to reveal.

Archbishop of Dublin Diarmuid Martin warned that a massive investigation of Dublin will find children were subjected to horrific attacks between 1975 and 2004.

The former Vatican aide, one of the church's most vocal critics, also said the full horror of years of physical, sexual and psychological torture has not been recognised.

Yet this organisation is still running most of our schools.

    You'd really have to wonder!

    Shocking stuff.

But let us not all taint priests with the same brush. Some Priests are excellent members of the community. Those that interfered with children should be shot

Every child abused should take a civil case against the diocese for compensation. The civil authorities had no involvement in this one, there can be no government bailout this tme.

He made the speech at Holy Thursday Mass in Dublin's Pro-Cathedral, attended by priests from throughout the archdiocese.

There was a government bailout when the state decided to pay most of the compensation in return for now worthless land .

Take your typical predatory paedophile priest operating over a twenty year period between 1960 and 1980. He is likely to have committed acts of abuse at least every week a number of times on the same or different children. So say he has abused 40 children a year. That priest alone will have abused 800 children over a twenty year period. That is probably conservative.

We can blame the Catholic church but really the fault lies in Irish tribal unquestioning worship of an institution. When that institution was run on medieval lines with zero transparency, no public accountability and routine access to children it'll attract paedophiles like flies.

A lot of people knew the priests who were dodgy but their voices were lost in the chorus of adulation for the Catholic Church.
