Free Metro Newspaper - Delivery staff also free

RTE News has carried a report that distributors of the free Metro newspaper have to wait up to six weeks or more to get paid. The agreement is that the distributors should be paid every two weeks.

Metro has confirmed that it has outsourced the administrative function to a UK company and it is now "aggressively" seeking to pay arrears.

Slightly emabrrassing for joint venture partner Irish Times?

so? I have to wait 4 weeks to get paid. So do most people. If I had to wait 6 weeks to be paid, I still don't think you could say I'm working "for free"

Well I think the general public can make their views know very quickly on this one - refuse to take the paper until these folks get their pay!

That's what I am doing from tomorrow anyway!

    The paper's a rag anyway - wouldn't touch it!

Don't see how it's embarrassing for IT though - aren't they just the printers?!

If your terms were weekly and you were not sure when payment would be made, would it be OK?

Does it matter that a media group that would report on issues such as Gama, behaves in a similar manner itself?

The Irish Times is a joint venture partner. Metro International holds an option to increase its ownership up to one third, while Associated Newspapers, publishers of the Daily Mail and the Irish Times hold the remainder of the equity in equal parts.

Lee Thompson, managing director of Metro in Ireland said last October that the Irish Times “gives local credibility. It's a paper of record, and Metro UK [owned by Associated] brings great branding, marketing and sales to the table'‘.

Another example of exploitation of migrant labour. No doubt our dear leaders will pass it off as an "anecdote". A lot of them around I see.
