    Mr. Bertie Ahern

To Bertie Ahern, the great contemptor of the Irish people.
I hope that tonight as you tour the world with your brand of paddywhackery and palaver you hear the news from home. Or maybe you are tucked up in St. Luke's counting your winners from the days racing and just catching a sense of the flood waters rising and no, I dont mean the Dodder or the Tolka. I want to ask you to one thing for your country as we all have to do very difficult things tonight. I want you to write an open letter of resignation from Dail Eireann and Fianna Fail. Its a necessary step for the country. You know the reasons better than any of us. At least let the ordinary people know that the person most responsible for the deluge now engulfing us didn't shirk his final responsibility, no matter how many more slipped through his hands all those years.

He was in the Dáil today, looking like he needed an enema.

There was one short shot of him in the Dáil today on TV. In that 5 second shot I could have sworn I saw a sheepish, tense and, above all, embarrassed man. His fingers were clasped around his chin and cheek, half hiding his face for shame and half in a gesture of tension, like he was clenching a stress ball. I clasp my face like this when I'm tense and I'm sure that's what I saw. Sir Alex Ferguson would have called it squeaky bum time for Brother Bartholomew today.

Or maybe I am just projecting what I imagine the feelings of a normal human being would be as the vomitous mess he left behind continued to stink up the state. Perhaps he was just worried about missing his flight to Florida.

I don't think I can find words to express the contempt I hold that man in.

If I was to write here even a fraction of what I am thinking right know I would be in the Bridewell before dawn.

Christ, even Haughey must be turning in his grave at what Ahern and his ilk have done to this country and its people. The old crook would have had to much shame to even think it - never mind do what his successors have done.

Haughey in fairness to him tried to warn people what was coming when he stepped down.
A champion of the people emerges with the age-old and appealing promise of "something for nothing" - to be financed through every-increasing taxes. Supply and demand are thrown out of gear - the overhead goes up; the effective use of human energy goes down; the standard of living is lowered because money cannot buy wealth that is not produced.

I don't think he really cares. Bertie only cared about himself and his own legacy. He is a smart guy, so I have no doubt that he knew he was destroying the country in the long term, when he was giving the Unions and builders everything they wanted, for the benefit of his own popularity in the short term.
