Bankers to seek pay cap renegotiation

Some bankers plan to renegotiate the Government cap on executive pay, RTÉ News has learned.

While banks say they are examining the details of the pay cap, it has emerged the reductions in pay for chief executives and chairpersons will have a knock-on effect on all senior management.

A major concern expressed by senior executives is that big cuts in pay will have a similar effect on their pensions which is based on their final salary.

A spokesman for the Department of Finance said it had not received any indication that the banks were unhappy with the salary cap.

Seems our bankers are not happy with their modest pay cut cant really see them bargaining with the government they have nothing to bring to the table

Obviously they feel that the public anger has diminished since Fingleton is almost gone.

I would imagine it's to test the waters.

    Cheers

The "other" side of defined benefits pensions?

When does the cap take effect, could we seen some taking early retirement?
