Budget leaks and kite flying

First one from Cowen, seems he is going to cut junior ministers. This was just reported on Newstalk. He hinted at this at some conference this morning. He also said this budget is not going to be the silver bullet that sorts everything out. Admitting defeat before the budget is delievered? Does not inspire confidence...

One of the most infuriating things about every new raft of measures taken by the government has been the (sometimes thinly-disguised) elements of bail-out for the FF party's shareholders (might as well call them that - I mean their financial mates). Since we know there'll be sfa else to look forward to in this budget, I'm hoping to have some fun playing 'spot-the-digout'. Anyone care to guess what we can expect in that department - and how they'll spin it?

The pension levy was a digout/bailout of course - the money is all being managed by some private company - no information about how, what etc.

If you've never achieved anything you'd be defeatist too....

he's been defeatist a number of times. He also seems incapable of not fudging every action that is needed. But then FF have "governed" by proxy (consultants, committee, consensus) for 12 years. We elect TD's to elect a leader who will make decisions, stick to them and show b@lls.

If a dog growls at you, you stare him down and continue past him without breaking eye contact. You do this a few times and all it takes is a glance and the dog will cower. This is what FF failed to do to all the vested interests in Ireland for 12 years.

We don't respect Cowen as leader because he does not act like a leader.

Do sacked junior ministers still get a full pension? Do they get any other payoffs?

A bit of a bullock.
All bellow and beef.
Its only a chat, we ain't the world council.
In 2000 the Women's Institute in Britain gave Tony Blair the slow hand clap to demonstrate their contempt.
It was dignified, restrained and effective.Doesn't Bertie deserve the same scorn. No shouting, no abuse, no agression just a relentless slow clap whenever he speaks in public would be enough to end that man's presidential fantasy.

They are entitled dear chap, entitled.
Disgrace or incompetence doesn't remove that right of entitlement.

The spin over the last couple of weeks suggests that the latest budget will be another cop out. There are a number of signals - inviting the "partners" back for another round of soul-searching in the national interest, the blurring of the deficit target, the failure to ask An bord snip to make an interim report, Cowens comment that there will be no silver bullet in the budget. Expect the levies to double, the price of cigs, alcohol and fuel to rise, some cosmetic changes on junior ministerial posts and TD pay. There will be no public sector reform. The deficit will be bridged with borrowings - massive and unsustainable.

These people are incapable of making tough decisions and we will pay for it in the long run.
