Bertie gets freebie to Italy from FAI

Fine Gael News - FAI cannot possibly justify freebie Italian trip for Bertie Ahern - FG

"Considering the day that's in it, Irish fans would be forgiven for thinking this is a joke. Unfortunately, it's not.
"Bertie Ahern is a wealthy politician who can easily afford to pay his own way. With fans shelling out €55, €70 and €85 for matches in Croke Park, spending thousands of euro on a jolly for an affluent politician cannot possibly be justified. I have no problem with the FAI presenting an award to Bertie, I have major problems with fans picking up the tab for a trip to Italy.
We'll have to watch the next issue of the register of member's interests for this. Gift tax or BIK due?

The Bertie gravy train rolls on.

Why is he not at work? Did he apply for the time off? Don't care who gives him freebies, but taking off like that with no planning or backup plan to fill his role when he is not here sounds very dodgy... They can keep him BTW

Could he not have paid for his ticket out of the 40 grand he hoovered up in 'constituency office expenses' for the years when he ran his business from the Department of the Taoiseach?
Or indeed from the 3.5 grand mileage claim he made when he already has a state merc and driver?

Better if they were in a house on fire.

The flight and the ticket are courtesy of the FAI. The hotel and expenses are courtesy of the Camorra.

Oh I can see it now.....

The Trap will ask him for advice on picking the team, seeing as El Berticolo's CV says that he studied De Premiership in UCD. Then he'll watch the first half, where Ireland take an amazing 2-0 lead playing with the wind and employing a 1-2-7 formation. Job done, he'll leave to marvel at an ancient Roman abandoned housing estate nearby.

Five minutes into the second half, Italy lead 18-2. The decision to play Duff, McGeady, Aldridge, Stapleton and Joe Burke all at centre forward isn't looking so clever anymore. Meanwhile Paul McShane, who we assumed was supposed to be regulating activity in the Irish half, has been spotted over at the Italian dugout taking instructions from Marcello Lippi.

Is there any way we can sell this man into slavery and throw the proceeds into the national coffers?
