I have no time for the man personally or politically, but he has done a lot for football in Ireland that has directly benefitted the grassroots.

The issue about use of resources and Bertie receiving the largesse is a different story though.

The Govt gave the money to IRFU and FAI as a populist gesture, a vote getter just as they did the same with the GAA and Bertie got his mush in on all the deals to fratenise with the ordinary common man, it was a penalty kick to give all three grants and any Govt would have done it.

Stuff like skimming a bit for yourself, junkets, no accountability and lack of probity are hallmarks of the FAI for decades and the principle reason why despite the immense popularity of soccer, we don't even have a stadium.
Bertie should be made honorary lifetime president of FAI, he is a complete icon to them.
Unethical, unprincipled, bent and shameless and when someone asks were all the money went from the "golden years", just offer a gormless smile and shrug it off.
    "Shure we're all Oirish..."
    Excellent post, nail on head.

Don't have a stadium? Apart from half Lansdowne Road you mean.

There were issues a generation ago, but the FAI of today is a far cry from that. Hence the GAA are copying their grassroots model.

You have to be kidding, half Lansdowne Road, to my knowledge it is 100% owned by IRFU and the FAI have a long lease which allows them to raise funds by selling overpriced seats which they will not be able to sell all without heavy discounting.

FAI has always been packed full of shysters, chief execs flogging tickets on a personal basis for financial gain, these guys are hungry for personal gain and freebies, Bertie is amongst his own, they dont really give a damn about grassroots more concerned about having the Missus's roots done.

    Your knowledge is wrong.

If the FAI don't care about the grassroots, explain why there are more footballers than gaelic players and hurlers combined and the GAA are copying their model?

You seem to be new around here, so let me fill you in: Any FF politician, especially Bertie, who accepts as much as a free cup of coffee or a sandwich from anyone, makes Ireland "the laughing stock of the world" and proves the depth of corruption in Ireland which has never been equalled in the history of the human race.

Such crimes can only be dealt with by a specially constituted star chamber where these lying criminals can be sentenced to burning at the stake. (After a fair trial of course.)

    Thats simply not true.

Like him or not, he has done a great deal for Irish football and the FAI recognised that.

Bertie is right at home dealing with the FAI top brass.
The higher echelons of the FAI has consistently been populated by spivs, chancers, oppurtunists and me-feiners.

John Delaney practically walks into a top job straight after his old man has to walk the plank for carry on that was deemed so dodgy he couldn't even be saved by his fellow members (some indictment!)
"Ok lads, I'll go but the young lad gets the top job as soon as the smoke clears.."
"No prob Joe, sorry bout all dis, damn rules eh..."?

The GAA and IRFU top tables (your landlords) have made many mistakes over the years but few would quibble their honour and committment.

There is nothing honourable about the Ban.

There is no point in engaging in a discussion about the FAI if the best you can do is slander. I am not for a second suggesting all is perfect, but if you think the GAA who are losing money and have falling attendences, declining membership and playing numbers etc are better run, you are in cloud cuckoo land.

Todays FAI are a well run, slick organisation. Peoples negatives towords Bertie should not be reflected on the FAI in such flippant terms.

Why is it okay to suggest on this site that an FF member is corrupt? It would be considered slanderous elsewhere
