Nah, Bertie would not take a chance on one of the locals, if he laid a hand on one of them he would probably get battered or end up sleeping with the fishes, neither of the blondes will travel with him for away fixtures or for that matter home fixtures are also off the menu, Bertie is now only for the lads.
The FAI is and always was run by complete skobies who would be an embarassment in the IRFU or the GAA.
Stuff like skimming a bit for yourself, junkets, no accountability and lack of probity are hallmarks of the FAI for decades and the principle reason why despite the immense popularity of soccer, we don't even have a stadium.
Bertie should be made honorary lifetime president of FAI, he is a complete icon to them.
Unethical, unprincipled, bent and shameless and when someone asks were all the money went from the "golden years", just offer a gormless smile and shrug it off.
"Shure we're all Oirish..."
Did he have security was that paid for too?
A champion of the people emerges with the age-old and appealing promise of "something for nothing" - to be financed through every-increasing taxes. Supply and demand are thrown out of gear - the overhead goes up; the effective use of human energy goes down; the standard of living is lowered because money cannot buy wealth that is not produced.
WEAVER, HENRY GRADY,
Your concern is touching, but since Delaney took over and his leaving of office Bertie was a very good friend of the FAI.
His stance on Tallaght stadium alone has made him a popluar within football circles. He also helped with Landsdowne Road, Abbotstown (the current project) and Lusk. The GAA tried to stop all these projects, so political help was vital.
I have no time for the man personally or politically, but he has done a lot for football in Ireland that has directly benefitted the grassroots.
The issue about use of resources and Bertie receiving the largesse is a different story though.
