    A billion Euro on Rent Allowance

    Almost a billion Euro is spent annually on rent allowance.

    Why are we pissing money down the drain like this? This figure can be halved if a proper housing policy was put in place and halved again if market rents were insisted on.

    There's also an artificial floor being put on rents because of government support propping up the market.

    That pays a significant proportion of the 28 percent who say they will vote FF.

    They vote themselves a billion euro by keeping FF in power.

    Don't try and apply any kind of logical argument to how the country is run, it will just make you mad.

    There is no incentive for people on rent allowance to seek cheaper accomodation, therefore there's no market variation in rent for those properties. In any given area, all properties with rent allowance tenants are "conveniently" set at the maximum rate allowable in that area (which is based on family size).

    I've known landlords to actually increase the rent just because the tenant has had another baby. And the way rent allowance rules are set, they are perfectly within their rights to do so.

    Rent Allowance = 1 billion Euro
    FAS = 1 billion Euro
    Useless Defence Forces = 1 billion Euro

    It keep thousands in a poverty/welfare dependence trap, but since it keeps roofs over their heads, some of those who do vote, do so for the party who 'gave' it to them. Another spin on the merrygoround.
