€21m to store e-voting machines for 30 years

The IT reports the State has signed 30 year storage contracts on the e-voting machines at a cost of 700k a year. €21m in total - obviously money well spent.

This scandal has been going on since 1999 already. When will we throw the damn things away.

when were these contracts signed and why is it in todays irish times?

If this is a new deal that Gormley has entered into than he should resign for gross stupidity, if the contracts are a relic of Cullen then what's the point in reporting them today?

Gormley should launch an investigation into these storage contracts, they are very very suspicious. What kind of Eegit would sign a 30 year contract to store ANY computer not to mention an extremely controversial, unproven voting system that we weren't even certain to be able to use.

Even if we are stuck with 30 year storage agreements, we can still throw out the e-voting machines and use the storage for something else. I'm sure the government stores lots of more useful things.

And these is from the government who voted down the cervical cancer vaccine. It seems the government is more concerned on spending money on machinery, than life saving vaccines for their people.

    Words fail me.

Read the article - the Eejits in question are.. wait for it... Dempsey and Cullen! (Quelle Suprise!) The problem now is - where are we going to dump them? Can they be dismantled and recycled? Maybe we could store some useless, out-dated, dysfunctional POLITICIANS in the warehouses instead?

Maybe the eejits who got us into this mess should be held accountable by putting their hands into their greasy pockets and paying for the storage themselves? If more of these eejits were held accountable for their mistakes by forfeiting their pay, there would be far less mistakes made. (Harney, take note)

Couldnt the state have leased them in the first place instead of buying them ? If they are worth keeping then why cant we sell them ? Even if the state is tied into paying for storage we can still scrap them and use the storage for something else.

Where exactly are they stored and who owns the warehouses? Another golden circle of sorts no doubt.
