I don't support Libertas. And the IT would not have taken that approach with the PDs, no matter had Mary Harney put a hex on someone publicly.1. It was Ganley who launched the attack on Higgins. When Higgins replies, and the media, as they do, cover it, you think covering someone's comments on Ganley are an attempt to "marr" his press conference.
It was Ganley who provoked the attack.

That doesn't prove they have a specific beef with Libertas, unless it's something they only do to him. I accept they're adulatory about the PDs, but would they have done it to FF or any of the other parties?

Well, McCreevy seems to have been a bit of a PD pinup boy...they were always looking for a bit of his market discipline. Was that a pro-FF bias or a pro-Bertie bias?

My point here is the emphasis was chosen carefully by the IT. Fair enough, it is newsworthy, but I wouldn't have thought it was the main item of interest in the launch of Ganley's candidacy. There is a certain naivety on Ganley's part though, I'll say that, he'd be better to act as if he's above such things (although it never harms to play the wounded anti-political establishment martyr either now and again). For the record, I don't have a beef with Jim Higgins, I met him once in Cork, he seems a nice fellow.
Only when given the juiciest of juicy stories on him from somewhere, the story of the 'dig-outs' etc. For years before that he was untouched and untouchable.
No, it's that they show favouritism to some parties, and portrays anyone who opposes Lisbon as borderline certifiable, to the point of obsessiveness. I don't mind the normal coverage, analysis and criticism, I do mind what looks increasingly like a politically motivated witch-hunt by a paper that traditionally portrayed itself as above such things. (I have to add that, even by the new standards of the Irish Times, Stephen Collins' article last year advocating subversion of the democratic will in order to pass Lisbon was a new height of hysteria)...
