Bankers exodus on cards following 500K cap on salaries!!!! Good riddance!

The best news in six months! Fat-headed bankers may soon be departing these shores in droves according to The Independent. Brilliant! Exactly the sort of cull we need. Replace them with the best and brightest from our universities - only this time make sure they are honest and competent.

What a bunch of sickos! Half a million is too little for them! Lenihan hasn't gone nearly far enough. 100K basic - up to 250 maximum for work that is shown to be honest and of direct benefit to workers - all workers. If BL thinks he can sell this to us as a 'tough measure' he has another thing coming. Does he really think he can sell the idea of ANYONE having a salary of 500K in this climate?

These people all need to be named and shamed

However, one senior banker warned the fact that the report calls for "adequate headroom" between the salaries of chief executives and subordinates "will likely lead to a mass exodus of senior management over the coming months".
Exactly the people we want to rid ourselves of.

The banking "source" would seem to have ignored the fact that there is absolutely nowhere for them to go. Even if there were job opportunities in the present climate does anyone realistically think that anyone will shortly take an Irish bank executive that was party to the huge risk taking that they were party to?

Additionally, the headroom issue would mean that a senior executive would only be making the same amount as, possibly, a hospital consultant. How terrible!!!

They will take the millions upon millions they robbed from us already with them...

They will live on some tropical island somewhere sipping champagne watching the news and laughing at the state of our affairs. Then they will eat some of their caviar and watch the weather for another giggle.

We need the assets and finances of the people who are responsible for this mess to be taken back. They were paid to do a job that they did not do correctly. They have caused the suffering of millions and a long gloomy future repaying the scandalous amounts of fake money that has been thrown about.

If we are to set the ethos of society for the greater good, we need to make examples of any banker / politician involved. Take back what they wrongfully gained / blatantly stole or throw them in jail! I prefer taking all they have so they can live with the rest of us mere peasants and see what life is really like.

its restarint of trade for a fovernment to implement this.
As for the where would they go argument, u must undrestand that its only certain sections of the banks which have caused this mess, primarily the investment banking divisions, the other sectors still make money and those guys will depart, weakening our banks.

There's no reason why their ill gotten gains should not be tracked down and taken from them? Surely it's only a question of having the will to do it.

populism is fickle thing when these banks were lending to people to be able to buy homes people were not baying for their blood. They made some shocking mistakes criminal ones too but they were not regulated properly and all you need is a few bad apples to bring the whole system down.
Another thing people keeping using the term "bankers" there a different kinds of bankers, merchant ,deposit and private wealth banks just to name a few.
So can anyone here tell me which kind of banker we should be blaming its kinda like saying all priests are paedo's.
And i don't work in finance or banking.

But can a Banker setup a company that contracts with the bank, and the company gets paid 1,000,000,the banker then pays himself through the dividends of the company, since he owns all the shares?

Took the thoughts out of my fingers, additionally he/she will be able to offset a lot more expenditure against tax that would be if still in the PAYE sector, probably resulting in less tax being paid.
