Change in Law on Non-national Driven Cars

Martin Cullen has announced that he is bringing in legislation in the coming weeks to allow the Gardai impound vehicles driven by non-nationals that are without tax and insurance. Did it really take them this long to realise this gap in the law? I remember seeing the Commissioner on Oireachtas Report one night (no I am not a drunk or insomniac!) saying he would love to have this power.

I was always under the impression that the problem was foreign registered cars rather than the nationality of the driver. Apparantly I was wrong and it is the fact of the driver of the vehicle is non-national prevents the impounding of the vehicle!

Damn if only I knew this earlier I would have told every Garda at a checkpoint that I held dual nationality and not bothered with tax and insurance.

Good. Time to get tough with the foreigners who think the PC-brigade will shield them from criticism when they break our laws.

Once upon a time you had to get ZZ plates if you were importing a car temporarily. Otherwise you had to re-register it altogether.

Not sure of there is some EU rule preventing this happening now.

The other loophole they will have to look at is people with foreign licences taking the rap for penalty points on behalf of an Irish person. Their licences can't be endorsed!
"Always do right. This will gratify some people and astonish the rest." Mark Twain

“When a government is dependent upon bankers for money, they and not the leaders of the government control the situation, since the hand that gives is above the hand that takes. Money has no motherland; financiers are without patriotism and without decency; their sole object is gain.” Napoléon Bonaparte

That is also correct. In fact it appears that in many facets of life in Ireland is the nationals who are discrimated against! I feel a need for a support or advocacy group coming on. Where can I get a grant for one?

Why, what evidence do you have that there are "foreigners who think the PC-brigade will shield them from criticism when they break our laws"?

Oh, wait, how stupid of me - I asked FutureTaoiseach a question. Why was I deluded enough to think he might actually answer it?

The majority cannot therefore be the elite.

You seen too be forgeting one certain Nigerian student who was brought back at the behest of the PC brigade, although Mc Dowell says he would done so anyway, to allow him to complete his LC. Who then went on to commit a number of offences under the Road Traffic Acts. He was obviously under the impression that there was no way the Government could re deport him with the support he had previously from our pro-immigration media.

Well wouldn't surprise me. They seem to want to place immigrants on a pedastal higher than the rest of us.

So you're basing this entire theory on ONE PERSON breaking the road traffic laws?????
