Ireland has average level of immgration - Report

Ireland's share of foreign workers close to EU average

(from ireland.com front page - no subscription required)

A study to be published today by AIB shows that one in 12 workers in Ireland is a foreign national, yet Ireland's share of such workers is close to the "pre-enlargement" EU average, writes Marc Coleman, Economics Editor.

In a separate development, The Irish Times has learned that a European Commission report, due for publication tomorrow, will argue that migrants have made a positive contribution to the Irish economy, and that other EU states should follow Ireland's example in opening labour markets to accession states.....rest of article in link
Bad news for the anti-immigration ranters today. These tow reports highlight :
1/ how migrants are benficial to the Irish Economy
2/ how our levels of non-native Workers is at the EU average
3/ how Migrants are more significantly more likely to be working than their Irish counterparts - no welfare toruism here.

That report cant be true. Even a casual glance at any traffic jam in Dublin confrims that there an inordinatly high number of Black people behing the wheel.
Plus, every now and then Catalpa and FT come rushing here to rell us that millions (yes, millions) of people from former eastern block countries are headed our way, presumably lured by our lovely weather, and the chance of seeing Shamrock Rovers v Shelbourne in the flesh.

EU report - not exactly unbiased when it comes to promoting the subject of EU enlargement.

More importantly, one in 12 now. Where was it? Where is it going?
(i.e if there is 'pro' and 'anti' immigration - can you be pro immigration and also pro a slow down?)
That's complete nonsense. I disagree with you.

Yup. Im pro-immigration for economic reasons, but only controlled immigration. Illegals should be kicked out asap. We also have a moral obligation to accept our share of Asylumn seekers. This share should be in line with our population in Europe, but I would not be in favour of returning those seeking asylumn who'se lives are in danger, just because we have taken in one too many.

Its called being sensible and pragmatic.

These two reports come from big business and the EU. Not the most impartial when it comes to migration issues.

    Good news, nonetheless.

Well the AIB are not part of the Euopean Union. They are serious Economic analyts and I don't see any reason for them to be idealogical on the migration issue.

Secondly the European Commision is largely controlled by countries such as Germany, France and Austria that will not like the content of this report one bit.

But of course, the anti-immgrationers and the rasicts (I have no problem with using that word for people who believe in a pure Gaelic race) will ignore this and nit pick form other reports and surveys that suit thier right wing agenda.

While 7.9% of the workforce comprises non-nationals, compared with other EU countries taht level was reached in a short time.

The AIB report says that the magnitude may slow but immigration will continue and many foreign workers are planning to stay here.

The fear of competition from foreign workers here is mirrored in the US by the impact of trade with China on prices on wages. In some cases, the latter is positive for the economy but for some workers, it would be the opposite.

Coupled with yesterday's NESF report on the labour market, what is missing in the current debate is a strategic view for the next 5-10 years from the Government linking all sectors of the economy. But there is little chance of that before an election.

Today's report can be found below:

And what about the left and their multiculturalist happy-clappy agenda? Aren't they just as bad at picking and choosing?

I suspect eurocrat was referring to specific posters on here (Catalpa is a good example of someone who picks and chooses as it suits him).

Feel free to provide actual examples from 'the left'.
