Minister refuses to apologise for Cromwell remark

Minister refuses to apologise for Cromwell remark - National News, Frontpage - Independent.ie
TRANSPORT Minister Noel Dempsey last night refused to apologise for comparing bank executives to Cromwell after it emerged his remarks had led to ordinary staff being abused by members of the public.

The Irish Bank Officials Association yesterday claimed its members are being dubbed 'Roundheads' in the wake of the minister's weekend comments at the Fianna Fail Ard Fheis.

IBOA general secretary Larry Broderick called on Mr Dempsey to withdraw his remarks -- but this was firmly rebuffed by the minister last night.

"I will not apologise for my comments," he told the Irish Independent. "They were directed specifically at a small number of money manipulators. I have nothing but respect for ordinary, hard-working bank officials."

noels appeal to the yokels continues to reverberate around the hills

loose talk is all we can expect from Fianna Fail.

When all the hollering and hooting is over the guy is supposed to be a minister but it seems the only self-inflating bubble remaining in Ireland is the one FF live in.

Cromwell wasn't all bad. After all, he lopped a king's head off.

I wonder what percentage of the Irish population would make that type of spontaneous remark? I studied history and wouldn't!

The "Roundheads" comment came from the AIB CEO Eugene Sheehy on Morning Ireland yesterday. The interviewer had to ask what he meant by Roundheads.

considering their carry-on over the last years - I would have thought Cavaliers would have been more appropriate.
